Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor courses

In addition to the Provider and Renewal courses, AMR San Diego also offers Instructor courses for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider

Prerequisites:

  • In order to take either Instructor course, the student must have a current ACLS or BLS Provider card.
  • Online course at www.onlineaha.org
  • Register and go to course catalog. Take the ACLS Instructor Essentials (not included in AMR fee)
  • Bring completion certifcate with you to class

 



Once the student has completed the Instructor course, he/she must arrange to be monitored by an AMR Training Center faculty member. Monitoring includes the instructor candidate assisting the faculty member in teaching a BLS class at AMR. The instructor candidate must be monitored within 180 days of taking the Instructor course. Once the instructor candidate has been monitored and received a positive assessment from the faculty member, the Instructor card will be mailed within 30 days.

AMR does not charge a separate fee for the course materials for either Instructor Course.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Renewal

ACLS is for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of a hospital. Through the ACLS course, providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

The Provider course is held over a two day period. It is intended for students who do not currently hold an ACLS card or who have let their card lapse. It is required that students attend both days of class.

The Renewal course is intended for students who have a current ACLS card. An ACLS card is considered current through the last day of the month as listed under expiration date (on the front of your card).

During the ACLS class, students will be responsible for understanding and completing the following ten core modules:

  • Respiratory Arrest
  • VF Treated with CPR & AED
  • VF/Pulseless VT
  • Pulseless Electrical Activity (PEA)
  • Asystole
  • Bradycardia
  • Unstable Tachycardia
  • Stable Tachycardia
  • Acute Stroke

The current version of the ACLS Provider textbook being used was copyrighted in 2006. It contains 2005 CPR ECC Guidelines. We anticipate that AHA will release a new version of the ACLS Provider textbook in 2011.

Upon successful completion of the course, each student will receive a two year American Heart Association ACLS Provider Card.

AMR San Diego offers both the Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider Initial and Renewal courses.

The BLS Healthcare Provider course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare professionals.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider is the highest level of CPR that can be attained through American Heart Association. The other two courses Heartsaver CPR and Friends & Family are not currently offered at AMR.

The Provider course is held over a six hour time period. It is intended for students who do not currently hold a BLS card or who have let their card lapse.

EMT Bridge Entry Test Appointment

REQUIRED:

- Bridge Applicant MUST use GMR email address. 

- Bridge Applicant shall put their employee ID number in the "License Number" Field of the registration form. 

- Applicants MUST wear a uniform and look professional. 

- "No-Call, No Show" will count as a failed test attempt towards your 3 attempts. 

- Those that are late, may be turned away from the test and count as a failed test attempt.

- Mock testing of the actual Bridge Entry skills test (NOT the written.)

- Feedback from Bridge trainers on your performance. 

- Review of skills and assessments based on feedback. 

Performance of the skills and assessments will NOT count for OR against you for the Bridge Program. This is just practice/training with feedback.

EMT Skills Verification (CA State Skills Verification)

Good Day!

This session is for the CA State Skills Verification for CA State EMTs. The following are the skills that will be tested on:

  • Trauma Assessment 
  • Medical Assessment 
  • Bag-Valve-Mask Ventilation 
  • Oxygen Administration

  • Hemorrhage Control & Shock Management
  • Spinal Motion Restriction- Supine & Seated 
  • Penetrating Chest Injury 
  • Epinephrine & Naloxone Administration 
  • Childbirth & Neonatal Resuscitation

NOTE: The test admisitration of these skills may be given in a comprehensive simulation that incorporates several of the skills listed above within one simulation. They may also be admisitered in the fashion following the NREMT style test sheet.

EMT-B 24hr CE Class

Good day!

This course offers:

- 24 hrs of CEUs towards an EMT Certifciation. This class is not an "EMT Refresher ", but does offer the 24hrs of CEUs for an EMT Certification for the state of California. 

- CA State Skills Verification for CA State EMTs, with the following skills:

PALS Provider course is designed for healthcare professional who initiate and direct advanced life support beyond basic life support through the stabilization or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, either in or out of a hospital. In this course, students will enhance their skills in the evaluation and management of an infant or child with respiratory compromise, circulatory compromise or cardiac arrest.


Textbooks for this class are required. Students have the option of obtaining their own textbooks OR purchasing them with the course. If the student chooses to purchase the textbooks through AMR, he/she will receive:

Upon successful completion of the course, each student will receive a two year American Heart Association PALS Provider Card

Paramedic Acclimation & Competency Course (PACC)

The Paramedic Acclimation & Competency Course is a 2-day course for those internal EMTs that want to promote to Paramedic at AMR San Diego. This class is mandatory prior to taking the internal Paramedic mega code and required protocol test. Once you have taken the course and passed both parts of the test, you may be assigned and begin Paramedic Field Training. 

Requirements:

  • MUST have at least your NREMT Paramedic Certification, which the number must be entered in the enrollware registration form or your CA state Paramedic Number. 
  • Attend both days to receive credit and participate in the mega code and protocol written test. 

 

Day 1:

Intensive review of SD County Protocols, skills, equipment. Which also includes, but not limited to: ECG review, AMR clinical policies. 

Day 2:

Paramedic simulations that incorporate ALS protocols from San Diego County. These sims are practice and made to review:

Medical 
Trauma
Pediatric
Trauma
Against Medical Advice calls
Fire Department Personnel Integration 

At the end of the 2nd day, candidates will be given the required SD County Protocol test and particiapte in the Paramedic mega code. Those that complete the course will receive 8.0 hours of CEUs. 

NOTE: From this point moving forward, it is highly discouraged to take any PTO/Leave until your are done with the promotion process and done field training. This has caused delays for candidates and issues with successfully completing training.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) foscuses on prinicples and evidence-based apprioach to learning. By focusing on principles of good trauma care and promoting critical thinking. PHTLS is commited to the following: Rapid and accurate assesment, identification of shock and hypoxemia, initiation of the right interventions at the right time, and timely transport to the right place.
